ROBERT CRUMB MEETS ROBERT HUGHES

Hughes: One reason why you're popular...

Crumb: WHY? I WANNA KNOW!

Hughes: ... is that you're fearless, crazy...

Crumb: (manic laugh)

Hughes: ...unaffected by political correctness.

Crumb: Maybe I should be... With my headless women, jigaboos. I didn't realize how hurtful that all was. But I crave acceptance. I want to be loved.

Several audience members: WE LOVE YOU!

Crumb: OK, you love me. Now back off, you're killing me!

The misanthropic comix genius was recently interviewed in NYC by the man who called him "the modern Breugel", Robert Hughes (who wrote my favorite history of modern art, The Shock of the New). Jason Gross, whose new blog is chock full of goodness, was there and tells us what went down.
